An exquisite piece of gem tugtupite with veins of polylithionite. The tenebrescence of gem tugtupite fades very slowly after it has been exposed to UV light. Incredible phosphorescence. There is a little gem nodule that could be faceted into a gemstone.

Tugtupite is a very rare mineral - found in only three places around the world (Kola Russia, Mt St Hilaire, and Greenland). Pieces from Greenland are the most sought after due to coverage, size and brightness. This material is from the Taseq Slope. Bright cherry red tugtupite with a very bright rare variety of lithium mica - polylithionite. The matrix is albite (or possibly analcime; an area of confusion) which fluoresces a dull magenta shortwave and a dull bluish/white longwave UV.

What is tenebrescence? This is the process when the sodalite on this piece changes color after exposure to UV (shortwave or longwave), darkening to a purple as shown in the GIF - a unique hue compared to other Greenland sodalites.
