A very large piece of virtually solid fluorescent sodalite, quite gemmy. Under MW you can see an unknown white fluorescent mineral, we've never seen this before. Interesting piece. It is phosphorescent which is very unusual for sodalite. Greenland sodalite comes in all colors. This piece is a very bright piece under both SW and LW.
This material is slightly tenebrescent as shown in the animation/GIF below. The LW fluorescence is knock-your-socks-off bright.
Willemite, Calcite, Fluorite from the Garpenberg Mine in Sweden
The Garpenberg mine is located in Bergslagen, a very old mining area in the southern part of Sweden.
The mine is very active today and is one of Europe's most progressive underground mining operations. Collecting is not possible, and the few specimens that reach collector's hands are highly prized. The mineralogy is quite similar to that of Franklin NJ.
