MSW1005: Calcite, Sphalerite, Hydrozincite

Large - 6 LBS, bright and superb slab for display

Hydrozincite glows a bright blue/white and sphalerite various shades of yellow. There are other areas of yellow where the ID is undcertain, and areas of purple FL from an unknown mineral. The yellow FL is best under MW, while the hydrozincite glows only under SW. I prefer displaying this piece using fullwave (SW+MW) as it makes all the colors pop nicely. There are a couple of areas of pink calcite which seem to get lost with the brightness of the other minerals.

These pieces come from a relatively unknown locale in the KY/IL fluorospar belt. So far this area has produced some remarkable specimens (see our trip report in the Locale section of our main web site). As I photograph more and more of these pieces I am starting to question the ID of the yellow FL mineral. It is quite variable in intensity from piece to piece, and seems to have different hues. Some is certainly sphalerite, while others are ??? (could be a yellow FL calcite).

Price: $180.00

World Minerals
Fluorescent minerals are found everywhere. Here we try to highlight specimens from unusual and rarely offered locales. You probably won’t find many minerals from the famous Franklin NJ localities - others are much better suited to address that market. But you will find exceptional specimens from exceptional localities around the world. We occasionally visit a couple of USA locales offering unique material, and often have material from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Norway, Sweden, and areas in South America.

China and Greenland are world areas we specialize in and can be found on their own specific China/Greenland pages.
