A kaleidoscope of color - tugtupite, chkalovite, sodalite, analcime + almost 4 LBS

“Fantasy Rock” is a nickname we’ve given to a specific variety of combination specimens found on the Taseq Slope. These are mostly 6 or 7 color specimens with a wide assortment of minerals. All have tugtupite, analcime and sodalite as the basic minerals and most have others. This piece has beautiful “eyes” of bright white chkalovite surrounded by tugtupite, and areas of green from both a uranyl activated mineral and a 2nd mineral not yet identified.

The sodalite is somewhat tenebrescent but not deeply. I find that using MW as a “kicker” on some of these specimens provides a more dramatic display. The MW light makes the sodalite “pop” without shifting the tugtupite towards its salmon color too much. LW can affect the red tugtupite too much if you’re not careful in the positioning of the light.

Greenland
Greenland is home to over 250 varieties of minerals. Many of them are fluorescent and new ones are being discovered each year. Tugtupite is perhaps the most famous mineral from Greenland - famous for its deep saturated red glow. Sodalite (var hackmanite) has become famous in the past few years as one of the deepest “color-change” varieties found and is always in great demand. Other rarities include chkalovite, ussingite, sorensenite, polylithionite, analcime, and more. Many of these are tenebrescent, phosphorescent, and have varied responses under multiple wavelengths. All are excessively rare.
