07/02 - Friday Arrival
|
Arrive in Greenland (Narsarsuak) at 3:15pm, travel to Narsaq via boat and arrive around 5:30pm.
|
Hotel guests will be dropped at their hotels to unpack and settle in. Campers will shop for food supplies and then be transported to Taseq Valley campsite. Campers will unpack in big tent (already setup) to be used as base. Truck will drop group at river crossing above bridge.

07/02 - Friday PM

TQE
|
Campers will cross river with waders and establish temporary camp by 9pm at 500m level. Rest and casual exploration until darkness (11pm). Night lamping until 3am. Retire for the evening. Those who wish may remain at base camp or in hotel (you WILL be tired from the long jet trip).

07/03 - Saturday
|
Truck will arrive from Narsaq at 10 Sat am with food supplies. Hotelers and base campers will join campers on TQE. Continued exploration throughout the day on TQE and above. Some may attempt summit of Naqalak. Group will descend TQE and camp at TQ Valley (NQE) for the night. Rocks will be cached at NQE. Truck will return to Narsaq at 7pm to drop hotelers, showers, and truck will return to TQ valley to stay.

Campers will spend night at NQE valley (main campsite). Night lamping of TQ slope by bridge, sorensenite field, or mine tailings. Free night.... All who intend to ascend KV next day must camp at TQ Base as the truck will not return to campsite on Sunday.

|
Campers will ascend KV on Sun AM. Summit will be reached by 11am. Temporary camp will be made at Tugtupite mines and the rest of the day spent exploring. Night lamping on Sun PM, sleep atop KV.

|
Campers will descend KV monday in the AM, rest at main camp. Rocks will be cached in TQ valley. Truck will return to Narsaq and bring hotelers (and food) back from Narsaq. Group will proceed to hike to TQW (river crossing below bridge) and setup temporary camp atop TQW. Truck will return to Narsaq - all will camp atop TQW.

Explore TQW and mid TQ all day. We may relocate camp slightly further east in preparation for another night of lamping (Tues nite) atop TQW, or simply wait for daylight so we can return to original TQW campsite (around 3am). IF any hotelers stayed in town truck will drop them off for ascent back to TQW to join campers Tues AM.

Move Camp
TUN
|
TQW campsite will be broken down Weds AM and group will descend to valley. All cached rocks will be retrieved and truck will return entire group to Narsaq, showers, shopping, etc. in preparation to move camp to TUN. Several truck runs may be required to transport all finds and camping equipment (to be done after ccamp moved to TUN). Rocks will be stored in Narsaq.

2 boats will deliver entire group to Tunuliarfik Weds afternoon for two days of camping. Setup camp on grassy area above Tugtup. Night lamping in cliff area and tallus fields.

Truck will be used to gather camping remains at NQE and caches

Entire day Thursday spent exploring the vast areas around Tunuliarfik, night exploration “at will”, return to campsite when practical.

Move Camp
KG
|
Boats will pick up campers Fri morning (with food supplies) and move entire group to KG. Finds at TN will be cached for later retrieval by boat (after Peter drops us at KG - on his way back to Narsaq, 1 bag per person please).

Camp will be made at Kangerlussaq for entire group. Boats will leave group at KG for two days. Campsite will be by LilyElv near collecting area (green sodalite).

Afternoon exploration, night collecting in KG valley. Retire at 3am

Full day of exploration at KG, possibly south shore, Lakselv, nite lamping Sat night at will...
|
|
Sunday afternoon (late) we will break camp and return to Narsaq (2 boats). KG rocks must be sorted and selected for weight as we will not have much spare room in the boats.

|
Sun PM is a free night. Bar hopping, fine dining in one of Narsaq’s many restaurants, or join me exploring the glacial moraines and boulder fields just outside the complex.

Monday - Pack for departure - all finds must be wrapped and ready for delivery to shipping port. Personal belongings must be packed for departure early the next morning. Sight seeing in Narsaq. Sun and Mon nights we will sleep in tents in Narsaq or in hotels. Chance for showers.

Depart Narsaq by Ferry early in the AM. Fly to Iceland at 4pm

NOTE: In many cases your finds will have to be “cached” for later transport as we will be very heavy. Keep in mind your limits, both physically and practically. As we discover rocks we will cache them at various locations, preferably already packed in bags for each person, and mark their location with GPS. Your finds at TN will be delivered after we are dropped at KG. Your finds at TQ and KV will be retrieved while we are camping in KG and TN.
HOTELERS: Please take note of the times you will be spending at the hotel (not much). KG and TUN will be 4 days of camping. If you decide not to camp atop TQE/TQW/KV you will miss a lot, and have a lot of hiking to do (you would have to rejoin the group each day).
