- Trip Reports -

These pages include areas which the webmaster has visited, or has somehow gleaned special pertinent knowledge. Usually it will be in the form of a “Trip Report” and will contain site pictures as well as mineral photos.

Calcite and sphaleriteColumbia Mine, Critterdon County, KY, USA - An old zinc mine from the 1800’s with wildly fluorescent calcite, sphalerite, and fluorite.

Leucophanite and zirconLangesundsfjord, Norway - In 2006 I visited this area with Howie Green in search of the elusive leucophanite. Howie wrote an excellent article for the UVWaves and it is included here, along with some photos.

SodaliteGreenland 2008, limaussaq Complex, Greenland - I have visited the famous Ilimaussaq Complex every year since 2001. Each year we make new and marvelous finds. Several trip reports are posted in our tour section, both from me and from folks who have joined our Geo-Adventures. In 2008 I spent 30 days in Greenland, guiding two tour groups. A brief report is provided here.

LLZ - 6 colors, amazing patternsLong Lake Zinc Mine, Canada - In 2009 I made a trip to several areas in Canada. My last stop was the Long Lake mine near Parham, Ontario. There are few places on the east coast that offer the collecting fun and variety this locale provides.

Hydrozincite, BariteDry Creek Prospects - The Wilder Prospect and Vickers Prospect are two old zinc/barite/fluorite mines located just across the “holler” from my house (1/2 mile give or take). Last worked in the 1940’s, they have been completely overgrown but with a little work some amazing specimens have been found.

Minerva Mine No. 1 - KY/IL
