 Kvanefjeld is the source for most of the gem tugtupite on the market. Pieces from Kvanefjeld often have the deep red natural color sought for gemstones. It is also a source for bright fluorescent specimens - most often associated with a very bright chkalovite. This area is mined heavily by the locals for tugtupite and there is also a commercial mining operation currently (2008) drilling and exploring the area for uranium.
