Season: July 1st to Sept 1st - group tours specified times, individuals ask for custom quote.
Duration: 7 or 10 days - please refer to the tour itinerary for details about each day. The days will be long, with at least one night trip to Kvanefjeld (weather permitting) for FL collecting (or more, at your discretion).
Collecting Locations Confidentiality: Tour participants must sign a nondisclosure and agree not to release locations as we have invested considerable time and energy in discovering the finest areas within the complex for collecting.
Rainchecks: There are none. Greenland weather dominates the schedule and can rearrange everything. Flights can be delayed, rerouted, or canceled. You may end up in Thule way north due to a fogged in airport in South Greenalnd, delaying your arrival by a day. You might miss your outbound flight really screwing things up.... But, the weather rules.
Transportation: by car/truck to Kvanefjeld, boat to other areas. Scheduled trips will be made and there will be no variation from the schedule unless the entire group votes to change the day’s outing. No side trips will be made and everyone will be expected to stay together.
Difficulty: Collecting requires that you be in good physical condition, able to climb mountains, and leap small buildings. Children will most likely not enjoy this tour - there simply is nothing to do but collect rocks, and the younger ones might find the climbs too challenging.
Liability: All participants must sign a Release - Waiver of Liability.
Accommodations: There are several Guest Houses located in Narsaq, or - for those so inclined, you may rough it in tents at the base of Kvanefjeld. We can help arrange reservations for your stay - Hotel payment is your responsibility.
Meals: Narsaq is not known for good restaurants. Be prepared to cook your own meals at the guest house or campsites. There are two places to eat, a very nice bakery, and well stocked grocery stores near the hotels.
A $300.00 nonrefundable deposit is required at time of booking. This will reserve your space. As additional people sign up, your final cost will be adjusted depending on the number of participants in that week.
Airfare, lodging, meals, etc. are your responsibility.
Side Trips: Tours may be scheduled to the ice cap for an additional $300.00 per person (1 day boat trip). Any trips outside of the trip plan will be at the traveler’s expense.
Final Word: Peter, your tour guide has the final word on all tours, scheduling, and locations. If he feels the weather is too bad, or the conditions not right you will have to entertain yourself in Narsaq. The weather in Greenland is unpredictable and can be dangerous. Narsaq has museums, Norse ruins, a rock shop, and other attractions to entertain yourself on these days.
Littering: This is a virgin, untouched area. Please carry out your trash from the collecting locales, refrain from disposing unwanted rocks in the yards of the hotels (dump them in the creeks around town, back in the mountains, etc). Collect rocks, leave only footsteps.
Shipping your Finds: You may hand carry in your luggage whatever you wish but be aware that Greenland is starting to become “possesive” about their rocks and this year have placed strict limits on the amount that may be exported. We will ship a maximum of 15 kilos of specimens for you in one of our regular summer shipments to Miami. An export license is required for all shipments - which we will provide. Our charge for shipping is $300.00 flat fee.
