Fluorescent Mineral Event Calendar
Signing up and Posting Events to Google calendar
To post events to the Google Calendar you must have a Google account (you do not need a Google account to view the calendar – just go to http://www.minershop.com/calendar for viewing only).
Step #1 - Open a Google Account It’s simple to create an account – just go to the Google home page and “create one for free”. All it asks for is an email address and password. They then send an email verification to activate your account. Google does not use your email for spam; they are very good about this, and your email address is not posted for others to see (unless you elect to let them).
Step #2 - Sign up for Google Calendars Once you get the verification email (within minutes) click on the link to verify your account. You can then sign-in and start using your private calendar. Navigate to the Calendar section using the “more” Google Products link and sign-in again (this time into the Google Calendar application). Here they will ask for your real name (again, not shared with anyone without your permission) and your time zone.
Step #3 - Send me an email so I can add you to the calendar moderator list Once you have a Google account set up send me an email requesting that I add you as a moderator on the FL Mineral calendar. I will add you and Google will send you an email saying I added you. Next time you log into your calendar page on Google the “Fluorescent Mineral Happenings” calendar will be in your list of “Other Calendars”.
Step #4 - Add events to the calendar Click on the FLM Happenings calendar and you will now be able to add events, change existing ones, and invite other people to join. If you add an event, be prepared to provide the name of the event, the address (full, with zip code, so people can find it), the date(s) and time and a good description. If you have a web address with further details it can also be included.
You can download the calendar details to your own computer if desired (for the UVWaves, or others) (data is in ical format – you’ll need calendaring software like Outlook to read it, or decipher it with notepad).
If you request to be added as a Calendar Moderator please just follow a few simple rules:
- Only fluorescent mineral related items should be added to the calendar
- Do not junk it up with spam (I’ll delete it)
- If an email address abuses the calendar I will delete it from the list
Anyone can view the calendar without joining Google. But joining gives a few advantages; you can post comments to the event, and invite others to the event. Anyone can moderate the calendar but must request that I add them to the approved list. Other dealers are encouraged to add their events, clubs, field trips, shows – we can all benefit from this sharing of information.
While you’re in high-tech mode, why not join the Yahoo Fluorescent Mineral Discussion Group? It’s simple, free, and there are lots of good exchanges all about our hobby.
