Greenland 2002 - Trip Report
We expected this summer to bring some exciting results from the collecting areas within the Illimaussaq complex – and we were right! For the first time we have two groups of fluorescent mineral collectors traveling to Greenland to participate in the summer’s tour program. This is the first time (to my knowledge) that collectors have visited the intrusion with the primary intent to collect FL minerals. Their expertise can only help us broaden our knowledge of the area and its minerals.
I (the webmaster) had planned on traveling to Greenland during the first week of August, taking a flight via Canada using the Great Canadian Travel Company (they offer charter tours to the Sissimuit area in Greenland over the short summer months). I would travel from Miami to Chicago, on to Ottawa, and then an overnight stay in Iqualit Canada. The next day it was on to Sissimuit Greenland and then down to Narsaq. But – fate would have it that I would not be able to make this nice short comfortable (and logical) hop over. Family matters forced me to change my tickets at the last minute and travel the conventional way via Copenhagen Denmark. So I bit the bullet and paid the extra $$$ the airlines insist on charging those who can’t plan ahead.
The following is a recap of my daily adventures, in text and pictures…..
On to Day 1
