Greenland Mineral Tours
“Mt. St. Hilaire - without the crowds or the magnifying glass.
A True “Geo-Adventure”
Join us for the LAST official Geo Adventure Tour to the major sites within the Ilimaussaq Complex. We have conducted these tours almost every year for the past ten years - and have decided that this summer will be the last. It's been a great experience and has brought a whole new suite of fluorescent minerals to the forefront of the collector community; Greenland has earned a name as one of the finest fluorescent minerals localities in the world. I know of at least a couple of folks who will be writing books based on these expeditions. During the tour you will visit Kvanefjeld, Kangerdlussaq, and Tunulliarfik for 9 days of intense mineral exploration. Please browse the Trip Report pages and our online guide to a Greenland Adventure of a lifetime for a better idea of what one of these adventures entails..
The pictures on these pages represent the most typical scenery you will encounter during our Greenland Geo Adventure Tours - water and icebergs, mountains and rocks. If you’re a rock collector, this is paradise. If you’re looking for green hiking trails, polar bears, and reindeer - Ilimaussaq is not the place to go.
Over 200 minerals have been identified from this unique complex - over 15 of them only found here. Ilimaussaq is the type locality for many alkaline minerals and the variety is amazing! Even more amazing is the yet to be discovered variety of fluorescent rocks and minerals. Greenland is essentially “virgin territory” for collecting fluorescent rocks and minerals. We have our choice of camping in the mountains, staying in hotels, travel by boat, car, and hiking. Fluorescent mineral collecting is the primary focus but any rock collector interested in this rare and unique mineralogy should consider our Greenland Geology Adventure Tour - a trip of a lifetime.

Ilimaussaq Mountain, Narsaq, Greenland the namesake for the complex, is in the center background. Kvanefjeld and the Tugtupite mines are on the left. The Taseq Slope is on the right. Some of the most beautiful fluorescent minerals in the world are found within this complex.

Most of the collecting areas are rocky and “friable” - the brittle alkaline rock geology simply doesn’t allow any plant life to grab a foothold - thus very little vegetation, no trees. Greenland is a remote country with little vegetation, lots of ice, and vast untouched areas. Areas are isolated, lonely, and vast. You will find rare minerals, rarely see another person, and this will be among the best adventure tours of your lifetime. The following pages offer a glimpse into a trip to Southern Greenland and the Ilimaussaq Complex.
